Image Converter — Convert PNG, JPG & WebP Free
Convert between PNG, JPG, and WebP — in your browser.
What this tool does
Want to convert an image format online for free? This tool converts photos between PNG, JPG, and WebP directly in your browser - no installs, no sign-up, and nothing uploaded to a server. Pick the format you need and download the converted file in seconds.
It is built for the conversions people search for most. Need to turn a PNG to JPG to shrink a heavy screenshot before emailing it, or WebP to JPG so an older app or program can finally open the file? Want JPG to WebP for a smaller, web-friendly image that loads faster on your site, or JPG to PNG when you need a cleaner, lossless copy or transparency support? Each of these common conversions is just a couple of clicks here, with no technical know-how required.
For the lossy formats (JPG and WebP), a quality control lets you balance file size against image clarity, so you can keep a photo looking crisp or trim it down to a much smaller file when sharing speed matters more than fine detail. PNG, by contrast, stays lossless, which makes it the right choice when you want to preserve sharp edges, text, and transparency exactly as they are. Choosing the correct target format for the job is half the battle, and the guidance here helps you decide.
Because the converter runs 100% in your browser, your images stay private on your device and nothing is uploaded at any point. That makes format conversion fast and worry-free - convert as many photos as you like, one after another, and download each result instantly without ever sending a file to the cloud.

For AI photo creators
Knowing which format to use - a transparent PNG, a lightweight WebP, or a universal JPG - is part of getting an image ready to share. The other part is having a great image in the first place.
At LaFoto we are building an AI photo generator that turns your ideas into original images you can then convert and use anywhere. It is free to start at launch.
Frequently asked questions
- Is this image converter free?
- Yes. Converting between PNG, JPG, and WebP is completely free and works directly in your browser with no account needed.
- How do I convert PNG to JPG?
- Upload your PNG, select JPG as the output format, adjust the quality if you like, and download the converted file. JPG files are usually smaller, which is handy for sharing photos and screenshots.
- How do I convert WebP to JPG?
- Upload your WebP image, choose JPG as the output, and download it. This is useful when an older program or website does not support WebP.
- Should I convert JPG to WebP?
- WebP often produces a smaller file at similar quality, which is great for faster-loading web pages. Upload your JPG, pick WebP, set the quality, and download.
- When should I convert JPG to PNG?
- Choose PNG when you want a lossless copy or need transparency support. Note that converting a JPG to PNG will not restore detail the JPG already discarded - it simply stores the current image without further compression loss.
- Are my images uploaded during conversion?
- No. The converter runs 100% in your browser, so your photos never leave your device and nothing is uploaded.

Formats, honestly
What actually differs between JPEG, PNG and WebP
JPEG discards information the eye is bad at noticing, mostly fine colour detail, and reconstructs an approximation on open. That is why it is small and why it degrades a little every time it is re-saved. PNG stores every pixel exactly and supports transparency, which makes it large but lossless.
WebP does both jobs — it has a lossy mode competitive with JPEG at smaller sizes and a lossless mode with alpha. In 2026 it is supported everywhere that matters, so the honest advice is that WebP is the default and the older formats are compatibility choices.

Pick a destination format
Which format should you convert to?
The default for anything going on the web
WebP produces visibly identical images at roughly a quarter to a third smaller than JPEG, which is a real page-speed gain rather than a rounding error, and it supports transparency where JPEG cannot.
The only reason not to use it is a destination that rejects it — some older CMS uploaders, print services and marketplace listing tools still do.
- Smaller at the same visual quality than JPEG.
- Supports transparency, unlike JPEG.
- Check the destination accepts it before committing a library.

When compatibility beats efficiency
JPEG remains the format nothing refuses. For an email attachment, a print order, or an upload form that has not been updated in a decade, it is the safe answer.
It cannot hold transparency, so a PNG with an alpha channel converted to JPEG gets a solid background — usually white, and usually a surprise.
- Universally accepted, including by legacy systems.
- No transparency — alpha becomes a solid fill.
- Photographs only; flat graphics develop visible ringing.

For flat graphics and anything with transparency
PNG is lossless, so a logo, a chart, a screenshot of an interface or a cut-out subject survives unchanged. Its compression works on runs of identical pixels, which is why flat colour compresses well and photographs do not.
Converting a photograph to PNG produces a very large file with no visible benefit. It is the most common format mistake.
- Lossless, with a real alpha channel.
- Excellent on flat colour, poor on photographs.
- Use it for logos, screenshots and cut-outs.

Conversion questions
What the image converter handles
The conversions people actually need and the traps in each.
A PNG photograph that is far too large
Convert to JPEG or WebP. A photograph in PNG is storing every pixel exactly for no perceptible benefit, often at ten times the size.
A logo that gained a white box
It was converted to JPEG, which has no alpha channel. Convert the original PNG to WebP instead to keep transparency and still save size.
An image the CMS refuses to accept
Most uploaders that reject a file are checking the extension rather than the contents. Converting to JPEG resolves it in nearly every case.
Removing location data before sharing
Any conversion re-encodes and drops EXIF, which takes GPS coordinates with it. That is a reliable way to strip metadata without a dedicated tool.
Converting back and forth repeatedly
Each lossy round trip compounds. Keep one lossless master and export copies from it rather than converting a converted file.
